For three days in November, students from music schools across the Peloponnese will travel to the mountain village of Vamvakou to attend a masterclass in traditional music.
Students will explore the connection between music, song and dance through classes taught by renowned professional musicians, set against a backdrop of mountains.
The Music Schools Meet-up is being organized for the fourth time by the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center (SNFCC), and this year’s iteration is implemented in collaboration with the nonprofit organization Vamvakou Revival. On November 28, after the completion of the masterclass, students will return to Vamvakou to present their work during the village’s Christmas tree lighting ceremony in a major closing concert where they will perform, sing, and dance alongside their teachers.
It is our great pleasure to help make this event possible through our ongoing support toward the SNFCC as its founder and major donor, as well as toward Vamvakou Revival. The Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF) is connected to this event in yet another way: as part of its Grants Against the Greek Crisis initiative, the Foundation had made a grant to support more than 40 music schools throughout Greece, meeting the schools’ increased needs for musical instruments.
