A severe weather alert has been issued for Greece, with a potent weather system set to bring strong winds, heavy rain, and a significant temperature drop from Sunday through Monday.
Sunday will see powerful winds reaching 7-9 Beaufort battering the Ionian Sea and western Greece in the morning. These winds will then sweep across the country, reaching central and eastern areas, including Crete, by the afternoon.
Meanwhile, northeastern regions, particularly eastern Macedonia, Thrace, and the northeastern Aegean, will bear the brunt of the rainfall. Expect heavy rain and thunderstorms from Sunday afternoon, persisting into early Monday morning.
The strong winds are expected to ease by midday on Monday. However, the country will wake up to a significantly colder morning, with temperatures plummeting 6-8 degrees Celsius. Monday’s highs will struggle to reach 21 degrees Celsius in Thessaloniki and 24-25 degrees Celsius in Athens.
