Oh ya the legendary nick galis !!! Huge respect!!!
Galis was a great hardnosed (as they say) player but they really do him a disservice when they compare his abilities to Michael Jordan.
Fiba stats: best scorer ever in eurobasket (national teams european championship) with 31 ppg. No one even comes close second, all of the runners up hovering around 20 ppg. Fourth overall with like a 1000 points in 33 games, Pau gasol being first overall with 1100 or something, points in double the games… He will obviously remain first per game scorer FOREVER. Galis of course.
Great men had told about him….MJ: "I had never imagined that such a great offensive player exists in Europe and especially in Greece" after an exhibition game in Greece between North Carolina and Greek national team….Drazen Petrovic: "if I am son of devil then Galis is devil himself"…… Arvidas Sabonis: "If Galis wants to score he will do it no matter you do"….. Red Auerbach: "The only mistake of my life was not to sign Galis back in 1979"…Bob McAdoo: " I saw things from Galis tonight that even Celtics had not done to us when playing for Lakers" after a euroleage game between Aris and Tracer Milan in which Galis had scored 45 points……
Θα σέβεστε!!!!!!!
To really understand Galis’ superior performance you have to consider 2 factors:
1) He is only 1,83 in a game that height is very important. He did what he did with such physical disadvantage.
2) He played in an environment that didn’t offer him great competition that helps improving your skills and keeps you on tour toes. Competition inspires you and teaches you. He was literally a class of his own. Think about it. He was his own NBA in Greece and Europe. How did he have the discipline, the drive, the inspiration to keep him self at such top level in a non NBA environment?! I am thinking about it and it makes me think that this man should be studied so we learn the secrets of motivation, inspiration, self drive and how to keep pushing your self to higher performance even if you are not in an high competition environment.
If you consider these 2 parameters and you compare him with the highest talents of the NBA history, I feel that he souls be considered the best player that has ever played the game. Think about it.
Uhmmm, it was the 80s when Galis played… So kinda makes sense his game looks like it is from the 80s… Also he was a boxer before playing basket so he was hard as nails.
It's good to know there are still people searching and knowing the great players of the "not so distant" past. Way to go guys, great video.
Final? 1989? Semifinal could be
Great stuff guys …even Kiel ..

What to say for Galis ! It’s not easy to explain his impact if you haven’t leave during 80s. The world needs more people like him
Νίκος Γεωργαλής -> Nickos Georgalis -> Nick Galis
Νικ ο δικός μας Michael Jordan , Russia* with Sabonis *= USSR not today Russia and former Yugoslavia , i am grateful to see the miracle of 1987.Greece lost one game the game with Spain the game i wached inside the Stadium.I was two meters of the side line ,the players were in my reach !!Every point was like goal in soccer..Ψάξτε οι νεότεροι τι σήμαινε ΕΣΣΔ σε σχέση με την σημερινή (μεγαλύτερη χώρα στον κόσμο) Ρωσία .. Τοπ two Ουκρανία , Λιθουανία. Γεωγραφικά είχε και το Καζακστάν αθόρυβο αλλά τεράστιο. Ενατη χώρα σε μέγεθος , μεγαλύτερη περίκλειστη..14 Χώρες έχασε η Mother Russia and still by far is the No1 In size country , 2nd is Canada .14 Countries + imagine what it was USSR..Galis the biggest European player .. )
Nick Galis is a legend in my country…i played basketball too…
Galis one of the best basketball players ever!
Galis was the proof of a not so popular theory. That if you work like crazy you can beat your own genetics. His work ethics was insane, especially for the 80s, and he managed to become a scoring machine at 6 feet with no particular athletic genetic gifts. He managed to build a vertical jump that is insane ( especially for a white guy-he could dunk with 2 hands from standing position) , a balance and shooting style during his layups/jump shots with a high trajectory that negate 7 footers trying to block his shots. And he also had that killer instinct that only stars have, never afraid to take the winning shot, never choking.
Nick Galis was the Michael Jordan of Europe….for sure the BEST player ever played in European leagues
Galis was a pure competitor – apart from an excellent basketball player.
He was willing and able to take and make the hardest of shots.
He had an iron will to win.
In that sense he reminds me the most of Michael Jordan.
Galis the God of European basketball
Galis is a legent
Giannakis was even better. 1st Giannakis, 2nd Galis for Greece. I can't tell if the new players, like Diamantidis and Spanoulis are better, but they're great too. For a year or two, Bourousis was incredible too. He was like Jokic
He is the one that make us waiting 4hours outside the stadium just to see him play back in the good old days.
Μια ζωή όλο ΑΡΗΣ
Galis the best European player ever and for ever
Tzvika Sherf, the Head Coach for Maccabi Tel Aviv, put Kenny Barlow, a 6-9 Swing Forward on Galis in the late 80's (10 years into Galis Career), and he sort of stopped him. (I would say stopping him is 15-20 points)
I think it was the only way to slow him down, putting a fast, athletic 6-8 to 6-10 player on him.
