Can this book teach you about Zeus in all his glorious mythological context? Not at all. However, is this book the perfect holiday read to keep your greek mythology itch scratched while sunbathing on the beach this summer? Absolutely.

Which “Zeus”? According to Plato there were two “Zeus’s”: the mythological Zeus and the uncreated Zeus (no different from what Hebrews and Arabs call Yahweh, Elohim, Allah etc. It’s the same God). Whoever worshipped the latter Zeus was a monotheist. Plato and Aristotle both considered the latter Zeus to be the crafter of the universe and of uncreated matter. Whoever worshipped the former (mythological Zeus) was a pagan. The philosopher Athenagoras of Athens also distinguished between these two “Zeus’s”.
Have you ever read "The Bull From The Sea" or "The King Must Die" by Mary Renault? They were written in the late 40's early 50's retelling of the Theseus myths. I suggested "Circe" to my wife's grandmother and she suggested them to me, luckily I bought about 200 old book club books years ago and they were in them! They are very much of their time but a fun, quick read. From what I understand Renault made a career after the war of writing about Greek Myths.
