British grandmother, 74, found dead on remote Greek island

A British grandmother who went missing on holiday on a Greek island three weeks ago has been found dead in a remote area.

Susan Hart, 74, from Bath, went missing on Apr 30 after taking a ferry from Kalymnos to the island of Telendos with her husband, Ed. Her family said she had planned to read a book while her husband went rock climbing. When they returned she had disappeared without a trace.

Telendos is an island under two square miles in size with no road network and a small port. For more than two weeks, the family from Bath were joined by officials and volunteers in an extensive search of the island.

Her daughter, Ruth Landale, has now confirmed she was identified by her stepfather, and the family are left “heartbroken’. Her body will be repatriated to Switzerland, where she was living, after a port mortem is carried out by Greek authorities.

Mrs Hart has three daughters who grew up in Bath but now live in Canada, Australia and London with their young families, the BBC reported. Ms Landale said that her mother had been showing symptoms of dementia in the past few years, but had not yet received a formal diagnosis.

“It’s been a stressful and distressing time for the whole family,” she told the broadcaster.

A Foreign Office spokesman said: “We are providing consular assistance to the family of a British woman who has been reported missing in Greece and are in contact with the local authorities.”
