The bustling tourist destinations of Athens and Thessaloniki are about to get a breath of fresh air, thanks to the addition of nearly 90 electric garbage trucks from Mitsubishi Fuso.
This move marks a significant step towards cleaner, quieter urban environments in Greece.
Mitsubishi Fuso, a Daimler subsidiary, has been expanding the reach of its eCanter electric truck, which debuted earlier this year. After successful ventures in Hong Kong, the company is now fulfilling a major order within the European Union.
Florian Schulz, Head of Sales, Marketing and Customer Services at Mitsubishi Fuso, highlights the eCanter’s suitability for waste management: “Its compact size and impressive load capacity make it perfect for navigating narrow city streets. Being emission-free and quiet, the eCanter allows for early morning waste collection without disturbing residents in densely populated areas.”
Prioritizing Silence: The Greek government emphasized the need for quieter garbage collection, a goal addressed by local body manufacturer KAOUSSIS. The company developed a specialized refuse body for the eCanter, minimizing noise from hydraulics and compaction. KAOUSSIS hails it as a “first-of-its-kind” design, offering a competitive edge while adhering to EU safety regulations.
