ABBA fans, it’s time to dust off those dancing shoes. Björn Ulvaeus’ immersive theatrical experience Mamma Mia! The Party is officially heading to Australia, bringing the Swedish pop legends’ greatest hits, a Greek feast and a 1970s-inspired disco to Sydney in March 2027.
Set inside a recreated Greek taverna on the island of Skopelos, where much of the 2008 Mamma Mia! film was shot, the experience combines live theatre, music and dining, with audiences becoming part of the action as a romantic storyline unfolds around them.
Guests are treated to a four-course Greek feast while a cast of 20 musicians and performers brings ABBA classics including “Dancing Queen”, “Waterloo” and “Mamma Mia” to life. Following the performance, the venue transforms into a 1970s-inspired disco, with a DJ keeping the celebrations going.
First launched in Stockholm in January 2016, Mamma Mia! The Party has since expanded to London, where it opened in August 2019. Together, the two productions have welcomed almost 1.5 million guests, with the London production alone attracting more than 700,000 attendees across over 1,500 performances.
“Bringing Mamma Mia! The Party to Sydney is a hugely exciting milestone for us,” Ulvaeus said. “From the very beginning, this experience was created to bring people together through music, storytelling and joy, and it has been wonderful to see audiences in Stockholm and London embrace it so wholeheartedly.
“Australia has always felt like a natural next step for us, and Sydney — with its energy, international appeal and love of live entertainment — is the perfect city for this next chapter.”
For Australian promoter Paul Dainty, President and CEO of TEG Dainty, bringing the production to Sydney marks a particularly significant full-circle moment.

“I had the extraordinary privilege of promoting ABBA’s first and only Australian tour back in 1977, and I still remember the phenomenal excitement that followed them across the country,” Dainty said. “Australia’s love affair with ABBA has never really ended — their music has become part of our cultural fabric.”
He added that working alongside Ulvaeus and Pophouse Entertainment to bring the production to Australia was a welcome reunion with the band’s enduring legacy.
“To be now working with Björn and Pophouse to bring this extraordinary celebration of ABBA’s music to Sydney feels like a wonderful full-circle moment.”
Beyond its entertainment offering, the Sydney production is expected to create 151 year-round, on-site jobs, and attract audiences from interstate and overseas.
Tickets to Mamma Mia! The Party go on sale to the general public on Thursday, November 12th, with fans able to join a waitlist for priority access ahead of the general sale.
Mamma Mia! The Party will premiere at Sydney Event Centre, The Star in March 2027. For more information, visit mammamiatheparty.com.au.
