Hundreds of Greek Australians and visitors gathered in Brunswick on Sunday, 18 October, for the second annual Greek Festival organised by Saint Eleftherios Greek Orthodox Church, transforming the church grounds into a celebration of Greek culture, tradition and hospitality.
The festival featured live Greek music, traditional dancing, authentic Greek food, homemade sweets and family-friendly activities, offering visitors a taste of Greece in the heart of Melbourne’s multicultural north.

Bringing together people of all ages, the event provided an opportunity for Melbourne’s Greek community to reconnect, celebrate its heritage and share its traditions with the wider Australian public.
Among the distinguished guests were visiting Greek parliamentarians Nikos Panagiotopoulos and Spyros Kyriakis, accompanied by Greece’s Consul General in Melbourne, Dimitra Georgantzoglou, and Greek Community of Melbourne president Bill Papastergiadis.

Their attendance highlighted the continuing ties between Greece and its diaspora, as well as the role of community and religious organisations in preserving Greek cultural identity in Australia.
Beyond the music, dancing and traditional cuisine, the Brunswick Greek Festival celebrated the importance of passing Greek customs and traditions from one generation to the next.

For older members of the community, the festivities offered familiar sights, sounds and flavours reminiscent of Greece, while younger generations had an opportunity to connect with their cultural roots.
The event also reflected the contribution of Greek Australians to Melbourne’s multicultural identity, bringing together heritage, community participation and contemporary Australian life.
Now in its second year, the Brunswick Greek Festival continues to provide a platform for celebrating Greek traditions while strengthening connections between generations and the broader community.
