Legendary British heavy metal band Iron Maiden returned to Athens on Saturday night, transforming the Olympic Stadium (OAKA) into one of the largest live music gatherings in Greece this year as tens of thousands of fans packed the venue for the band’s “Run For Your Lives” World Tour. First estimates put show attendance at more than 50.000.
The concert marked Iron Maiden’s latest appearance in Greece as part of the band’s global 50th-anniversary celebrations. Athens was selected as one of the major European stadium stops on the 2026 tour, with OAKA hosting the opening phase of the band’s summer European schedule.
Fans began arriving at the stadium hours before the show, many wearing classic Iron Maiden shirts and waving flags as the atmosphere around the Olympic complex steadily intensified. American thrash metal band Anthrax opened the evening before Iron Maiden took the stage in front of a roaring crowd.
Frontman Bruce Dickinson led the band through a setlist focused on songs from Iron Maiden’s early decades, reflecting the concept behind the “Run For Your Lives” tour. Massive video screens, pyrotechnics, dramatic lighting, and appearances by the band’s iconic mascot Eddie created a large-scale stadium spectacle throughout the night.

A special treat of the show was the addition of “Infinite Dreams” at the setlist, marking the first time the track had been performed in concert since 1988. A highly anticipated song, “Alexander the Great,” was absent.

Videos shared online showed thousands of fans singing in unison during some of the group’s best-known tracks, while the stadium erupted repeatedly in chants and applause. The energy inside OAKA remained intense from the opening songs through the concert finale.
The Athens performance formed part of a broader anniversary tour celebrating 50 years since Iron Maiden’s formation in London in 1975. According to the band’s official tour information, the production has been designed as one of the most ambitious live shows in the group’s history.
OAKA, Greece’s largest stadium venue, has hosted some of the world’s biggest music acts over the years, and Iron Maiden’s return added another major international concert to Athens’ live music calendar.
For many fans attending the concert, the evening represented more than just a live performance. It was a celebration of Iron Maiden’s decades-long legacy and the enduring connection between the band and its passionate Greek audience.
