Event Honors 70 Years of Archangel Michael as Patron Saint of the Greek Air Force

ASTORIA, NY – The Hellenic Link in collaboration with the Hellenic American Project and the Hellenic Cultural Center (HCC) host a unique and inspiring evening, celebrating the history of the Greek Air Force and the dream of flight through a piano recital on Saturday, November 8, 7:30 PM, at the HCC, 25-02 Newtown Avenue in Astoria. This special event celebrates the 70th anniversary of Archangel Michael’s designation as the Patron Saint of the Greek Air Force, blending scholarly insight with an artistic performance followed by a guided discussion.

The program features two distinguished professors, Evangelos Athanasopoulos and Nicholas Alexiou, who will guide the audience on a captivating journey regarding the Hellenic Air Force and our Flying Heroes.

The second theme of the night is the powerful, reciprocal relationship between flight and music. The event will feature a special musical presentation, ‘Flight Inspiring Music and Music Inspiring Flight’, by acclaimed music professor, composer, and pianist Petros Hatjopoulos. Through live piano performances and recorded excerpts, he will demonstrate how composers have captured the essence of soaring through the skies and how music itself has served as a muse for courage and aerial innovation.

“This is more than a history lesson; it’s a sensory experience that connects our deepest aspirations to artistic expression,” said an event organizer. “We are honoring a sacred tradition for the Greek Air Force while celebrating a universal human dream.”

The evening schedule includes a multimedia lecture, a visually rich presentation with videos and imagery; the live musical performance with piano pieces by Petros Hatjopoulos that evoke the spirit of flight; and a post-event discussion and reception, an opportunity for socializing with hors d’oeuvres, wine, and cheese.

Tickets are $25 in advance via Eventbrite and $30 at the door. The ticket price includes the full program and the post-event reception.

As a special gift, the first 40 guests to register will receive a free, original Greek Air Force T-shirt (come early to choose size and color).
