Dimitris Rokkos, son of the well-known singer Stelios Rokkos, has openly discussed his ongoing battle with depression, aiming to encourage others facing similar challenges to seek help.
In a recent interview with the newspaper “Espresso,” Dimitris revealed that music serves as a form of “therapy” for him, helping him manage his condition. “Many of you don’t know that for years I have been fighting the monster of depression. I can’t be alone with myself for even ten seconds. I detest and loathe myself; I feel trapped in a body I can’t change. However, I am one of the lucky ones because my engagement with music manages to soothe it. That’s why you always see me with a guitar in hand; that’s why I don’t give up,” he stated.
Dimitris also delivered a heartfelt message to those who may be struggling with similar situations, emphasizing the importance of communication in saving lives. “There are people who don’t have this option, who have no one to talk to. If they turn off their phone for a month, no one will check on them. I beg you, speak. To your girlfriend, your boyfriend, family, friends, or professionals. Talk. For those who understand music, if you watch my videos closely, you will notice hidden layers where I attempted to express what I am experiencing through my music,” he remarked poignantly.
Dimitris Rokkos’s brave openness highlights the critical need for dialogue around mental health and the power of music in coping with life’s challenges.
