The Greek Orthodox Cathedral of the Ascension in Oakland kicked off its 47th annual Oakland Greek Festival Friday morning with a Greek cultural education program followed by traditional food.
Danni Vilas, of Oakland, her sister Nikki Vilas of Lafayette and their friend Nancy Chu of Berkeley, were among the first visitors to wait in line to order lamb sandwiches. “We’ve been coming to the festival for the last ten years,” Danni said. “I always have the same lamb sandwich, and sometimes I come on Sunday (the last day of festival) just for this.”
Corpus Christi Middle School students also improvised a traditional Greek dance. The event runs through Sunday and features live music, dancers, food, vendor as well as a beautiful view of the Bay from the Oakland hills.
